Dear Editor,
    I was concerned to see Attorney General Paxton’s claim that cannabis can cause psychosis characterized as some sort of ridiculous fear-mongering tactic of the Reefer Madness variety ["The Austin Chronic: How Worried Should Cannabis Users Be Over Paxton Suing Austin?," Feb. 16]. I am not a Paxton supporter, nor do I think marijuana criminalization is a good use of resources. However, cannabis use is a risk factor for psychosis. I don’t think it’s good to downplay scientific evidence just because it’s inconvenient to one’s political stance.

Dear Editor,
    Plans for a sprawling 1,400-acre luxury resort in West Austin threatens dwindling water supplies in the area; The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality plans to do nothing about it.
    Rising average temperatures in the region have led to increasing drought conditions for residents. The development would only make things worse, as they are likely to be approved for over 27 million gallons annually from local groundwater conservations. This is one largest groundwater permit request in Hays County history, at a time when 88% of the county’s population suffers from drought conditions.
    This symbolizes a larger issue in Texas, where governmental and political agencies not only prioritize short-term profit over long-term sustainability efforts, but leave the average Texan with dwindling freshwater supplies.
    I urge you to get involved! As Austin residents it is our responsibility to call on our local representatives and agencies in advocating for the well-being of fellow Austinites and the place we all call home.     The main reason for picking up a Chronicle has always been the music listings at ALL the clubs. Live music is Austin’s most important commodity.
    Please don’t leave any venues out. It would only use another page or two and just might keep a local venue alive.
